I am a PhD in economics professor educated in the UK and USA. First in economics, you need to clearly comprehend major theories, second, you might have some level of mathematical skills when you study Keynesian economics. Third, applying economics theories into real lives is important and required to figure out solutions for social issues and economic policies. Also, when you go for higher degrees, you might decide either microeconomics, macroeconomics, or development economics, or others is suitable for you. I studied Business Economics for an undergraduate program, Development Economics at the University of Sussex in England, and PhD at the University of Sheffield in the UK. Economics can be boring and interesting depending on how your lectures or professors take initiative but usually the economics subject limits their abilities due to its theoretical depths. Excellent video with sage advice. Every day is a school day👍😊💜✌️ Best to say truthful - as in CVs don't get caught out at interview - write about the concepts and arguements that interest you (relative to the degree) and put the authors' names in brackets afterwards. Not only does that avoid plagiarism, it explains your interest in those concepts and arguements (with understanding) whilst acknowledging the author and showing that you've read the papers/books/literature too. I came across a MBA personal statement where only 500 words were allowed (iirc for many MBAs it's a 1000 words). However basic guidelines were given by the university, which needed careful reading. Then it's a case of, edit, edit, edit, edit and edit it again. Don't waste words, stay relevant to the degree and what the university has asked of you in the guidelines. Be mindful to watch out for hyphens being counted as words not characters in some auto word count functions (count the words manually if unsure). Also a brief - in bold - heading can be useful as an aide memoire and to clarify to the reader (iirc they're not part of word count), however in 500 words, that's just two headings for two main sections relative to what the university has specified they want to know about. I'm no expert but I hope that helps others💜✌️😊

I did it on my undergraduate, combined with Business. Bachelor of arts Development Studies with Business Administration. I had an opportunity to acquire knowledge in different fields such as Research methods and Statistics, Trade and Industrial Policy, Economic globalization, Entrepreneurship and Development, Agriculture and Food Security, Political, Social and Economic Development, Marketing( Principles and Service), International Businesses Management, Human Resource Management, Business Environment and Entrepreneurship and Small business management.. Plus I did certificates in Project Management and Planning, and Monitoring and Evaluation. I found the combination more interesting more than I expected 🔥👏.

I'm reaching out because I'm considering pursuing a master's degree in economics, I'm currently studying BSc Psychology, but I've recently become really interested in economics and I'm thinking about making the switch. I find the subject fascinating. Also, I'm wondering if there are any specific requirements or prerequisites for someone coming from a non-economic background like mine. Any information provided would be really helpful.

Application for grad school is due in 2 days and I'm super thankful I came across this video. Because my personal statement doesn't use overly-sophisticated language, nor does it read like a laundry list of my accomplishments, like many of the personal statements I've read from those in my field, I've started feeling discouraged and insecure about it. With my writing being professional and easy to follow, I hope this will score in my favour by making the administrators' jobs easier. it seems that your statement is less than 3000 characters while from what I know , the average required number of characters is 5000 and sometimes it could reach 7500 characters, doesn't this effect the evaluation of the statement ?

thanks a lot for this video, especially the rant towards the end. I think a lot of us are in a similar situation and it feels like so many are oblivious to systemic issues and it's incredibly disillusioning learning more and more and more about how dire of a state the world is in. So it's really nice to hear someone else struggling through it too. Hopefully we can all make a tiny dent towards meaningful change!

Hello! I am from Mexico, I am studying physics, but I met a friend who was from a good economic position and she went to Canada to study international development studies, I always wanted to study something that would allow me to contribute but the social sciences seemed totally corrupt to me, without an exact directed direction and I did not like the subjects of foreign trade and law, medicine seemed like a beautiful branch to me but it is difficult and expensive to enter medicine, but I felt very moved by this friend who wanted to contribute and my way of life changed. see the world because I always wanted to do something for others but I never knew how and in Mexico this degree does not exist, I didn't know it existed, but I hope I can get a master's degree.
